Neicoya gets inspired when she can plant an idea and make it come to life.

“I think a home will help me do more of that,” the future homeowner said.

Park Square Homes will build Neicoya’s home in Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County’s Silver Pines Pointe community during Builders Blitz 2022. During the second week of February, five construction companies (and their subcontractors) will donate the materials and labor to build six brand-new homes in five days.

Growing up in West Palm Beach, Neicoya spent much of her free time volunteering for several nonprofits. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, for a victim’s advocacy organization for victims of sexual violence, and for mental health causes.

She first volunteered during Women Build Week at Habitat and then stayed on as a volunteer. “I liked what it represents and how they change people’s lives,” she said. “It is an opportunity for a good home that doesn’t put a lot of financial stress on families, and a way to help others by working on their homes, too. It creates a cycle of give and take.”

Searching for “home”

A few years ago, Neicoya moved to Orlando for specialized medical care after a car accident and has been seeking a lifelong home here ever since.

“Home is something I always wanted as a kid but didn’t necessarily get. Home to me means everything. It means that I have a reliable place to return to every day. Something I own and worked for,” she said.

Being in a community of like-minded homeowners will help her succeed in other areas of her life.

“The people I like to be around are goal-oriented and hold each other accountable. That’s what inspires me.”

Paying it forward

Neicoya wants to do more work with teens transitioning from foster care, specifically teaching them life skills. “It’s not realistic pushing them out without a foundation,” Neicoya said.

She realized that when she was growing up she had to deal with the same kind of challenges, constantly searching for a long-term home. “More coaching on life skills will help them become more successful in their lives,” she said. “Without a sense of stability, it’s hard to accomplish anything.”

Neicoya is so thankful to Park Square Homes for donating their time and materials to build her house during Builders Blitz.

“Sometimes, we forget what it means to come together for other people,” she said. “But the builders and their teams, and Habitat Orlando & Osceola are doing an amazing thing. It’s a beautiful program, so needed and so necessary.”
