The holiday season is the perfect time to reflect on your year and look ahead to what is to come. It is a time to reach out a hand and connect with others, give back to old friends and new, and meet needs in your community.

As we go about the busyness of the holidays, we’re taking a few moments to slow down and consider ways to give back – both big and small. Here are a few of our favorites.

Practice gratitude

Take the time to be grateful and acknowledge the blessings in your life – from a place to live, to the people who gather with you there.  This practice not only reminds us of how truly meaningful the holidays are, but also helps us connect to those who matter most.Write a letter. Make a phone call. Reach out to a friend you have missed to let them know their impact on your life – and that you’re thankful for them.

Support a cause you care about

Consider a cause that affects you or someone you know.  You can share that community need on social media, tell a friend about why it matters to you, or donate to an organization working to meet that need. Do what you can to support a better, brighter future. We’re tuned into the need for affordable housing in our community (and are doing what we can to meet it) – what other causes are you passionate about?

Set aside time to plan for giving back in 2020

Reflect on how you can best make an impact in the new year. What is one new experience you’d like to have in 2020? Have you been wanting to volunteer somewhere? Is there a social justice or community topic you’ve been wanting to learn more about? Identify one step now that will help you get closer to that goal next year. And then take the leap to strengthen your community!

However you decide to give back to your community during the holidays – whether through donating, volunteering, advocating or learning more about affordable housing – thank you for your support. We wish you and yours a safe, happy and healthy season.
