Roman Ramesar knew exactly how he wanted to spend his time after retiring from the U.S. Postal Service last year: He wanted to volunteer.

“We are God’s hands and feet,” Roman said. “We have to do things for Him. That’s why I want to help and do good for as long as I can.”

Roman related to the homeowners in need – and he knew that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to live.

Following Women Build in March of 2019, Roman began volunteering with Habitat Orlando & Osceola several times a week.

With his construction background and a desire to lead, Roman soon took on the role of volunteer crew leader. Roman guides fellow volunteers through using certain tools, construction tasks and more.

Every build day presents a different set of community members to meet and tasks to take on – some of which require physical endurance.

Working hard has always been Roman’s way of life—he prefers to stay busy.

“I just wanted to do more things besides working and making money,” Roman said. “I wanted to help people and do things before I die.

“What I do now, I enjoy…On my time, I do what I want to do and as much as I can.”
